Services

Service Responsibilities
The homeowner is responsible for the water line from the shut-off valve into the dwelling, and includes the repair and maintenance of the valves located on each side of the water meter.
The City of Neillsville Water Utility owns and maintains the water service from the water main up to and including the shut-off valve located in front of your property. The utility is also responsible for the maintenance of the water meter, with the exception of a frozen meter.

Frozen Water Service
If your water service is frozen on the Water Utility side of the shut-off valve, Water Utility personnel will thaw the service to restore water to the home. A frozen water line from the shut-off valve into the dwelling is the homeowner's responsibility. Water meters damaged from freezine will be replaced by the Water Utility at the customer's expense. If you have a problem with freezing pipes, please call 715-743-3991 weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Service Leaks
If the Water Utility becomes aware of a leak on the homeowner's side of the shut-off valve, the homeowner will be notified that they have three (3) days to contact a plumber to make repairs at homeowner expense. If the homeowner has not contacted the Water Utility within the 3-day timeframe to notify them of plans for repair, the service may be disconnected. The plumber should contact the utility to have the water shut off at the shut-off valve, and under no circumstances should they operate the utilities valve. There is no charge for the Water Utility to perform this service.

Remote Readers
Outside remote readers have been installed on every home. These readers allow the meter reader to read the water meter from outside. When doing siding work or changing the outside structure, please contact the Water Utility at 715-743-3991 to have the remote meter removed. Do not try to remove the remote reader yourself. There is no charge for the Water Utility to perform this service.

Water Main Flushing
Water main flushing is performed two times per year, typically in April - May and September - October. Teh water main flushing program is designed to remove natural minerals that sometimes collect on the bottom of the water mains. The flushing may cause red or cloudy water, and sometimes low pressure. This mineralized water is not harmful to a person's health, but it may cause rust stains on light or colored laundry. Main flushing dates will be posted on the City of Neillsville Facebook page and/or the City Spotlight on the City of Neillsville website's homepage.

Disconnection of Service
To avoid possible disconnection for unpaid Water/Sewer Utility bills, please come to the City Clerk's office at City Hall, 118 W. 5th Street, to set up a deferred payment agreement. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Service disconnected for non-payment will be reconnected only after a reconnection charge is paid by the customer, and will not be reconnected after 3:00 p.m. on weekdays or at any time on weekends.
